Deborah Fawcett Hadden

Artist & Horsewoman

Debby Fawcett Hadden - the painter

I am excited by horses. I love the Pennsylvania landscape and horses need a setting – the two go together. I also love the coast of Maine. While I am painting that I am in my “happy place.”

Biography:

Deborah Fawcett Hadden was born in Delaware County Pennsylvania to a family with artistic leanings. Both of her grandmothers, Sara Hayes Fawcett and Mary Smedley Pennell, attended The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. Sara Hayes Fawcett also took classes at Drexel University during the time Howard Pyle taught there and is listed as his student. Debby's first cousin, Sara Sue Pennell, got her start in painting as a student of her grandmother, Sara Hayes Fawcett. Sara Sue is an accomplished artist and member of the American Pastel Society.

Debby ignored her artist-within for most of her adult years focusing on horses, their training and how to teach people to ride them. That changed in 2004 when she used oil paints for the first time in a beginner's class taught at Sue McTyier's White Swan Gallery. Debby was immediately hooked on the feeling the oils gave her. Since then she has worked with Adrian Martinez, Ellen Gavin, and Sue Styer. Debby is currently studying with Elise Phillips.

Debby is a member of the Chester County Art Association.
